A Mass Wedding for Tikbalangs

Lately, it has been so much harder to decide on what to wear. Not because I have lots of clothes and I’m having a hard time to choose. It’s because I do not know if it’s gonna be rainy or sunny. We only have two seasons, but the weather’s becoming as unpredictable as, say, the next secret on Post Secret. (I’m joking. The “secrets” there are either about thoughts of killing one’s self, or some sexual thoughts).

That’s why we should always forgive the guy wearing leather jacket in the sweltering heat. The weather’s mood is beyond his control, and of course, we know by now that it’s because of some very inconvenient truth.

The climate has drastically changed, that the climate in Cubao is different from that of Ortigas and Makati. You pass by EDSA, from North to South, and you experience all types of weather – sunny, rainy, cloudy, windy, etc. It’s like a theme park for kids who want to be meteorologists.

A common occurrence these past days is the rainy-sunny combo kind of weather. We of course have a belief that when this happens, tikbalangs are getting married. There must be a mass wedding for them somewhere as it now happens all day, everyday.

It is not only us Filipinos who do have this belief though. In Japan, the sunny-rainy occurrence means that foxes are getting married. (Reference: Akira Kurosawa’ Dreams - picture below)

I also read somewhere that the Spanish people have a myth about the same weather, but this time, it’s the witches who are slicing wedding cakes and throwing bouquets, and dancing to songs like Butterfly Kisses.

But in our hometown up north, it’s not about matrimonial ceremonies. When we were kids, we have a fear of getting wet in the rain whenever God forgets to turn off the rain after switching on the sunshine. The old women said the rain water will give us an-an.

I know a lot. Take that, Kuya Kim!
