Fried Chicken Chronicles

It’s funny, or maybe sad, that at the slightest hint of discomfort or misfortune, I automatically feel that the world owes me and that I deserve to eat a lot of food. Just like tonight. I spent two hours waiting in line for the UV van that would take me home. And so I had an intense craving for unhealthy indulgent food. During the entire trip home, I psyched myself up that I’d be eating Jollibee Chickenjoy.

So I got off at Retiro where a Jollibee branch is just right across our UV’s stop. While lining up, I sensed something weird going on. The lighted display meant for food already cooked and packed was empty. Still, I waited in line for about 5 minutes. When it was already my turn at the counter, the cashier said that my Chickenjoy would take 15 minutes to make.

I was so hungry that 15 minutes to me felt like an hour. I cancelled my other and decided to walk to a McDonald’s branch about four blocks away. While I was walking, it started to rain. Hard.

It rained while I was right in front of Shakey’s. So my decisive mind pushed me to come inside. I only wanted fried chicken, so I ordered chicken and rice. It’s more expensive than Jollibee and McDonald’s two-piece chicken but I did not care anymore. I was hungry, and wet, and intensely craving oily, salty and crispy fried chicken.

Oily, salty, crispy fried chicken - that Shakey’s had me wait for, for a good 15 minutes.

I should have stayed at Jollibee.
